Scenic Painted Dome-top Box, America, 19th century, dovetail constructed rectangular box with hinged lid, iron latch, the top painted with an affectionate couple and four children in a rural landscape, the front with a red house beside a river with sailing vessels and a sidewheeler, the sides depicting a house on a hilltop, (minor imperfections), ht. 9 1/4, wd. 20, dp. 10 in. Note: Accompanying this lot is a letter from conservator Joel Zakow indicating that his examination and testing of the paint confirms the decoration as 19th century in origin.
