After Jasper Francis Cropsey (American, 1823-1900) Pastoral Landscape with Mountain and River View. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, picturing a scene with a pasture with figures and cows in the foreground with houses and a golden field with figures threshing and stacking grain, overlooking a river with sailing vessels and distant mountains, 18 x 36 in., in a later molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor craquelure. Literature: See Folk Painters of America by Robert Bishop (Dutton & Co., New York, 1979), pp. 98-99, for similar examples. The painting is after an engraving of J.F. Cropsey's American Harvesting , the engraving done by James Smillie, published by the American Art Union in 1851.
