Fine Gold Musical Snuff Box, by Piguet et Meylan , the case numbered 2851, with initials G. R.I.C. in diamond, S.C. and Paris hallmarks, playing two airs on single-piece comb, in gold case with engine-turned panels on lid, base and sides, floriate motifs at the four corners, chased borders in pattern of thistles and scrolls alternating with flowers and garlands, the lid with central motif of neo-classical gadrooned urn on matted ground, wd 3 1/2 x dp. 2 1/4 in. Note: Isaac-Daniel Piguet was born in Le Chenit, in the Valley of Joux, in 1775. He settled in Geneva in 1811, where he formed a partnership with Philippe-Samuel Meylan (1772 - 1845). The pair specialized in miniature movements for inclusion in automata, snuff boxes, and objects of vertu.
