Dr. Shaw's Medical Box, leather-covered beech, with handle and studded brass decoration, the fitted interior containing seven tin cannisters, bottles with preparations, syringe, suture case and pocket book with handwritten treatments dated 1851, wd. 14 in. Note: Dr. Samuel Shaw (1790 - 1870) of Plainfield, Massachusetts, father-in-law of Dr. Erasmus Hudson, an early anti-slavery campaigner. Included is a typewritten copy of The Romances of a Country Doctor , a pepr delivered by Shaw's great-grandaughter in 1947.
