Carl Sprinchorn (American, 1887-1971) At the Beach Signed "Carl Sprinchorn" l. l., artist's estate stamp on the reverse. Watercolor and graphite on paper, sight size 21 x 16 in. (53.3 x 40.6 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, half inch tear to edge u.l., not examined out of frame. N.B. Swedish-born artist Sprinchorn came to the United States at the age of sixteen to study with Robert Henri. Living in New York and Maine, Sprinchorn is best known for his powerful figural images and landscapes of the Northeast. He met Marsden Hartley in 1916 and the two painted together in Provincetown and Ogunquit, Maine. Although he was virtually unknown during his lifetime, Sprinchorn's paintings have been since featured in numerous exhibitions and are included in many public and private collections.
