Oil on canvas, 50 x 25 in. (127.0 x 63.5 cm), unframed. Condition: Losses, crease l.c. N.B. Born in Sweden, Carl Gustaf Nelson first came to the United States in 1903. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art and Art Student's League in New York City, however, he spent the majority of his career in Boston and Cranberry Island, Maine. Nelson's modern paintings with bright colors, calligraphic lines, and sense of movement were widely exhibited at galleries and institutions throughout the country, including Addison Gallery of American Art, Whitney Museum Biennial, Chicago Art Institute, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Worcester Museum, and De Cordova Museum.
