Wiener Werkstatte Sterling Silver and Enamel Brooch, Max Snischek, c. 1920s, depicting a fashionable lady in enamel on copper within a stepped frame, signed l.r. "M.S." Max Snischek (Durnkrut, 1891 - Vienna, 1968), a member of the Wiener Werkstaette who led the fashion department from 1922, was an artist/artisan active in many media including painting and drawing, textile design, and jewelry. The members of Wiener Werkstaette, believing that no object was trivial enough for design and refinement, influenced the standard of taste internationally in the early 20th century.
