Large Compound Microscope by Moginie, lacquered brass, with bar limb supported by trunnions, rackwork coarse focusing on triangular pillar, fine screw focusing on the arm, mechanical stage with rackwork X and Y motions and rotating plate, substage, slender 8-inch lg. tube dividing into three sections, eyepiece, objective, 2 1/2-inch dia. plano/concave mirror on swing-arm attached to collar, and claw-toed Y-foot engraved Moginie, 14 Ridinghouse St., London , ht. closed 17 1/2 in., (finish streaky). Note: William Moginie (FRMS 1866) worked for C. Baker of High Holborn, for whom he designed the famous Baker traveling naturalist microscope. Mechanical actions appear smooth, untested.
