Pair of All-Steel Pistols by T. Murdoch, Leith, Scotland, c. 1770, engraved on frame T. Murdoch , with lobe-shaped butts, flared barrels, ball-shaped button triggers, blank escutcheon plates, belt hooks, engraved overall, full-length 12 1/2-inch, (one frizzen steel broken one ramrod replaced). Provenance: Collection of Allan Klein, from the late Bill Guthman. Please note: Illustrated in Warren Moore (1967), Weapons of the American Revolution , p. 17, a copy of which accompanies this lot. According to the author, a pair of Scottish pistols by T. Murdoch was purportedly Washington's legacy to Lafayette, quoted on p. vi of Weapons of the American Revolution .
