Ratsma, Harlingen , the dome-top case with carrying handle and brass feet, foliate inlaid front and sides, blind-fret above tapering brass-topped columns flanking 9 1/2-inch composite brass dial with silvered "four season" spandrels, matted center with alarm disc, applied name boss in the arch with flanking spandrels, chapter ring with quarter hour and "half quarter" markings, eight-day brass fusee five-pillar movement with verge escapement, "Dutch striking," calendar and alarm, engraved on the backplate Tieerd Ratsma, Harligen , ht. 24 3/4 in., (losses). lacking object right rear column and capitals, object left rear bottom capital and four finials; back of sarchofagus possibly had fabric as evidenced by tack holes; movement needs an overhaul; time and strike trains complete; numerous spare holes on the movement backplate probably for alarm mechanism; unexplained hole in object right corner of the dial and on the reverse an unused stud for unknown function.
