Large Steiff White Mohair Teddy Bear, c. 1905, with underscored "F" button in ear, shoe button eyes, light brown embroidered nose and claws, excelsior stuffing, swivel joints at neck, shoulders, and hips, cream-colored felt pads, long limbs and pronounced hump, ht. 27 in., (scattered moth damage on muzzle, right eye, chest, legs, and pads). Provenance: Purchased from the estate of Anne M. Bullitt, wife of William Christian Bullitt, Ambassador to the Soviet Union under Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The couple had residences in Ashland, Massachusetts, and Dublin, Ireland. Overall good, firmly stuffed. Fur is clean but thin or missing in places due to moth damage, which has affected the fur, but not the fabric. Areas of loss include: muzzle, sparese on forehead, right side back of head, part of hump, parts of back, left leg and right foot. Original pads, holes in foot pads, right ear has been re-stitched to head.
