John Way [Wei Letang] (Chinese/American, b. 1921) Autumn Branches Signed and dated "John Way '67" l.r., identified on labels affixed to the reverse. Oil on polycarbonate resin, 12 1/2 x 23 3/4 in. (31.8 x 60.3 cm), in a light box frame. Condition: Good. N.B. Shanghai-born artist John Way works in the traditional Eastern and Western mediums of ink and oil to create works influenced by both Chinese calligraphy and Abstract Expressionism. A student of the modern Chinese calligrapher Li Jian (Chinese, d. c. 1950), Way immigrated to the United States in 1956 and settled in Boston, where he studied Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
