John Taylor Arms (American, 1887-1953) Lot of Two New York Views: New York From Staten Island Ferry, 1917, total edition of 26 plus proofs, drypoint (Fletcher, 14); and Evening, East River, New York, 1919, sixth (published) state of 50, etching and aquatint in blue and black (Fletcher, 26). Both signed and dated "John Taylor Arms..." in pencil l.r. and annotated l.l. Plate sizes to 3 3/8 x 5 1/4 in. (8.6 x 13.3 cm), framed. Condition: Foxing to former, not examined out of frames. Provenance: Through the estate of Ernest Hillman, Jr., Fairfield, Connecticut. Both have been removed from their frames. New York has margins over 2 inches with deckled edges and is laid paper with a "Hand Made" water mark. There are collectors marks along the lower edge including one from Collection E, John Taylor Arms. There is prevalent foxing and staining to the image. East River has margins of 1 1/2 inches or more with a deckled left edge. There is subtle mat burn and toning. It is annotated "Sixth State" near the lower right corner.
