Aesthetic Movement Silver Hot Water Kettle, c. 1875, possibly English, remarked for American market, tapered cylindrical, with domed lid with flat leaf ovoid finial, short handles, silverplated tap, applied throughout with openwork laurel branches, on spreading foot, ht. 16 in., approx. 69 troy oz. (includes tap and handles). not tested for fineness. lid with one leaf pulled up slightly (showing tear to solder below it). body with dent to rim above one handle. lid with some small dings to circumference (visible more from interior than exterior). age typical finish wear to wooden handles, with one with small chip. wear to plating of tap. tap marked "Hayden''s Patent Jan''y 26, 1869." bearing minute, rubbed marks at rim, along with small zig-zag assay scratch marks at upper rim of body. lid rim with halos of the backside of set of three marks, but they appear to have been filled/obliterated. body and lid marked otherwise with walking lion facing to left with "sterling."
