English, Circa 1780. English Sheraton period mahogany tambour sideboard, in generous proportions, the bowfront top cross-banded and inlaid with ebony and satinwood stringing over conforming case with two central cutlery drawers above an inlaid tambour cabinet door, flanked to either side by three graduated drawers, the bottom drawers having deep interior for cellarette, all drawers cross-banded, beaded and inlaid with satinwood and ebony stringing, each with individual locking mechanisms, the right side with secret locking hinged door opening to compartment, the whole raised on bracket feet with casters. Height 38.75", width 83.75", depth 31.75". Provenance: Original invoice dated August 27, 1956 purchased from Charles Angell, Antiques, Works of Art, Member of the British Antique Dealers Assoc., 34 Milson Street, Bath. Invoice states 'The above sideboard is guaranteed genuine antique, produced in England about 1780. Producer unknown. Bought by us from Mr. M. Sainsbury, 35 Gay Street Bath, 8/8/1956. To be delivered to Cunard White Star Line, Southampton Docks for shipment per S.S. Queen Mary, leaving September 13th, 1956. (Copy of the above invoice available upon request).
