Pennsylvania Paint-decorated Slide-Lid Pine Spice Box, 1750, the rectangular peg and dovetail constructed box fitted with six interior compartments, the cover ornamented with a stylized flower blossom and inscribed "AGD 1750," ht. 3 3/8, wd. 7 3/4, lg. 10 1/8 in. Provenance: Ex Earl F. Robacker collection. Reference: Illustrated and or discussed in The Magazine Antiques, in the article Wooden Boxes of German Pennsylvania, by Earl F. Robacker, February, 1952, p. 172 and Touch of the Dutchland by Earl F. Robacker, A. S. Barnes and Co. 1965, p.142,and 163. Old losses corners on top molding, more prevalent on the rear molding corners, molding on front of lid may be a replacement , it''s a little narrower and not chamfered like the others, 3 1/2 in. shrinkage crack on lid and 4 in. on base. no repaint detected under blacklight.
