English, second quarter 18th century. "An Impartial Enquiry into the State and Utility of the Province of Georgia", attributed to John Percival the Earl of Egmont, published by W. Meadows in London in 1741. An 18th century text written by the English and concerning the young American colony known as Georgia in the modern day southeastern United States, the text addressing "THE many Reports, which have been industriously propagated to the Disadvantage of the Colony of Georgia, call for an Enquiry into the Reasons and Validity of them, especially at this Time, when the Importance of the Province is so necessary to be known... The principle Objections consist of the following Particulars 1. That the climate is unhealthy, 2. That the soil is barren, 3. That no produces for trade can be rais'd in it, 4. That the Lands were granted upon improper Tenures and Conditions, 5. That it will be impracticable to render the Colony of any Value, without the Use of Negroes...". The book with brown leather binding and corners over blue to red marbled covers, with gilt decoration and text to spine, 104 numbered pages, 7.5" x 4.875".
