Needlework Sampler "Wrought by Ann Priscilla Watson aged 11 yrs. 1825," executed in silk threads on a linen ground with rows of alphabets above a verse "While varying shades/The pleasing task beguiles/My friends reward me /With approving smiles," the lower register depicting a a house beside a river, enclosed on three sides with a border of morning glories, roses and violets, 18 1/4 x 17 in., in a molded wood frame. Some fading has occurred but colors are still pretty good, and the condition of the threads and background is very good. The sampler was glued around edges to a piece of cardboard but is easily removed. Has a wood panel backboard with chamfered edges.
