American School, 19th Century Portait of Hannah (Sharpe) Cleveland of Pomfret, Connecticut. Unsigned. Subject identified in insription on reverse of the panel. Oil on panel, 23 1/2 x 17 3/4 in., in likely original wooden frame. Condition: Panel cracked along right edge, minor craquelure. Note: According to genealogical records Hannah Sharpe was born September 12, 1761, at Thompson, Windham, Connecticut, to Gershom and Hannah (Dana) Sharpe. On April 19, 1781, Hannah married Solomon Cleveland.(1754-1823). They resided in Pomfret, Connecticut, and together had six children. Hannah died April 13, 1852, in Pomfret, Connecticut. The top portion of her bonnet looks like it may have been been scrubbed.
