Portrait Miniature of a Gentleman, attributed to Ruby Devol Finch (vicinity of Westport Point, Massachusetts, 1804-1866), watercolor on paper, c. 1835, depicting a bust-length profile portrait of a young man with a pink tie, red, green and yellow striped vest and black coat, against a background painted with scrolls, 4 x 3 in. in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Toning, small edge repair c.r., light stains. Provenance: Howard and Jean Lipman collecton, sold at Sotheby's, The Howard and Jean Lipman Collection of Important American Folk Art & Painted Furniture, November 14, 1981, lot 186. Old cellophane tape remnants on each edge slightly staining the paper, 1/4 x 1/6 in. repair of paper loss c.r. edge, retaining original paper.
