Shaker Tiger Maple and Cherry Armed Rocking Chair Enfield, Connecticut, c. 1820, the finials top the posts that flank the graduated slats above the mushroomed arm supports, which terminate at the rockers, old mellow surface, ht. 46 1/4, seat ht. 15 in. Literature: Pages 86 and 87 of The Shaker Chair , by Charles Muller and Timothy Rieman, Canal Press, 1984, illustrate similar examples. The mushroom arm caps may be early replacements as usually this type of construction would have been a single turned piece of wood and these are applied.
