Mahogany Shelf Lyre Clock, New England, c. 1830, the brass bezel over the 9 in. dia. painted iron dial with Roman numerals, free-standing columns with carved capitals flanking the carved and veneered "harp" shaped hinged mid section, eight-day time and strike brass movement with rack and snail strike, recoil escapement, front hung pendulum and two lead weights, ht. 30 in. This clock formerly in the collection of Mark Shanaberger, is illustrated in Distin and Bishop, The American Clock , p 124, pl. 259. Dial relined, replacement hour hand (a period hour hand is with the clock), possibly lacking an alarm as evidenced by the spare holes in the front of the movement plate., spare holes for probable ball feet in the base.
