American School, 19th century. "Boy Feeding Chickens", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Vertical painting depicting a young boy wearing period playclothes, a red striped white shirt tucked into navy blue breeches over stockings of the same color and black shoes, the figure with left hand extended down toward two cocks or roosters at his feet and his right arm bent at the elbow with hand resting upon his waist and holding a crust of bread which draws the attention of a third cockerel at his backside, the scene set in an interior with stone floor and a fallen ceramic plate at lower left below a partially visible window sill. Framed approximately 32" x 24", unframed approximately 25" x 17".
