Antique 18kt Gold Hunting Case Pocket Watch, J. E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, the white enamel dial with Roman numeral indicators, subsidiary seconds dial, enclosing 21-jewel, full-adjustment movement, lever-set, case and movement no. 1364, the engine-turned case with monogram PS, 51 mm, signed dial, case, and movement. Note: This watch was presented to prominent Philadelphian Percy Smith by his father Winthrop in 1871 on his 21st birthday. They were "Winthrop and Percy Smith, Brokers in Stocks, Bonds, and Specie, and Public Accountants of 37 South Third Street" in Philadelphia. Both were members of the Stock Exchange, and the house was among the most active and highly regarded firms of the last quarter of the 19th century. Caldwell engine turned engraving worn, initial SP on back, runs and sets, dial a little griumy but without hairlines
