22kt Gold and Emerald Three-stone Ring, Recovered from the Anchor Wreck, Spanish Flotilla of 1715, set with three step-cut emeralds measuring approx. 8.49 x 7.90 x 6.00 and 6.80 x 5.83 x 4.30 mm, within stepped bezels, tubular shank, artifact no. 40663, size 7, (with 1997 salvage certificate). Note: For examples of similar salvaged rings recovered from the wreck of the Nuestra Senora de Atocha in 1985 and 1986, see Gold and Silver of the Atocha and Santa Margarita , June 14 and 15, 1988, Christie's New York, lots 151 and 153. The Anchor , salvaged in 1997, is believed to be the wreck of one of the eleven ships of the Spanish Flotilla of 1715. While returning to Spain from South America with bullion, coins, and emeralds, the flotilla was lost in a hurricane off the coast of Florida. During this period, the Spanish were exploiting the emerald mines of Muzo region of Colombia.
