Antique 18kt Gold and Diamond Hot Air Balloon Stickpin, depicting a hot air balloon floating over a platinum sea, with old mine-cut diamond setting sun in the background, the foreground with lighthouse and engraved gulls, dia. 3/4 in. Note: The scene probably depicts the balloon of Blanchard and Jeffries, who were the first to fly over the English Channel. Such jewels were produced in the late 19th century to commemorate this event. Pinstem probably 14kt, possibly later, and reinforced with gold solder. Reverse with evidence of prior findings
