Enamel Decorated Gilt-metal Framed Shell Carved Cameo Brooch, the finely carved shell depicting Venus and Cupid in the painter's studio. This cameo belonged to a young boy who was orphaned as a result of a plague in New York City and was left in the care of St. Patrick''s Cathedral. It is believed to be German or Austrian. Minor enamel loss, minor hairline, measures 2 1/2 x 2 in.
