Newcomb College Pottery Mug Clay with glossy glaze New Orleans, Louisiana, 1906 Modeled and incised decorative band in shades of blue and green, marked on base with NC cipher, JM for Joseph Meyer, potter, two interlocking L's, one backwards, probably Louise Le Beuf, Q for buff clay and BH56, ht. 4 3/4 in. Provenance: From the family of William E. Roberts. Mr. Roberts's sister was Gertrude Roberts Smith, an early member of the Newcomb College faculty.
