Portrait Miniature of a Small Child in a Blue Dress Seated in a Yellow Chair, c. 1840, watercolor on ivory, oval three-quarter length portrait, the child wearing a blue patterned dress, a gold chain necklace, and white pantalets, seated in a yellow-painted bamboo-turned armchair, 3 1/4 x 2 1/2 in., housed in an embossed brass frame with brass mat. Condition: Minute paint losses on child's cheek and neck, crack to ivory u.r. background. Note: The child is reportedly from the Stonington/Pawcatuck area of Connecticut, and has the last name of Richardson. The crack is about 7/8 in. lg. Portrait may have some sort of varnish applied with a several small brown spots in background.
