T. F. Ramsay (American, 19th Century) Hinkley & Drury's Works Boston Mass. 1846. Fitchburg Railroad Locomotive. Signed and dated 1877-78 l.r., identified below. Pigment with applied gilt foil paper accents and wood rail on academy board, 12 x 17 in., in a period molded wood frame with gilt liner. Condition: Good, some subtle surface grime and stray marks. Note: Holmes Hinkley and Gardner P. Drury built stationary engines and began building locomotives 1840. According to inscriptions the locomotive was built in 1846, and later rebuilt at the Fitchburg Railroad repair shop in 1866.
