Red-painted Wooden Canteen, America, early 19th century, lapped-seam construction, one side with black-painted numeral "21," the other side with incised name "E. BURR," remains of red woven wool twill tape strap, (imperfections), dia. 6 3/4 in. One small leather strap holding woven twill tape strap in place is gone, woven twill tape is frayed, broken and missing in some places, rosehead nails and wooden pegs were used in construction.
