Teak Carved Asian Export Cylinder-top Kneehole Desk and Chair, China, late 19th century, the desk with pierced cresting showing a variety of foo dogs, above a shelf supported by fully carved figures, surrounded by a pierced gallery of bamboo plant carved panels joining plinths surmounted by foo dogs, the lid carved with panels of figures, animals, and a rickshaw in landscapes, opens to an interior of compartments and drawers with floral-carved facades, above a pull-out writing surface with inset leather panel, over kneehole flanked by four carved drawers with head-form pulls, all on a low carved valanced bracket, original finish, (minor imperfections), ht. 80 1/2, wd. 68, dp. 38, writing ht. 30 1/2; the adjustable armchair similarly carved, ht. 30 1/2, seat ht. 16 1/2 in. abrasions and scratches to desk and chair, with wear to finish in places, and minor losses to desk carving.
