Chinese Gilt Lacquer Sewing Box with Ivory Sewing Implements, c. 1840, octagonal form with brass handles and carved paw feet, decorated with gilt court scenes, flowers, and birds on a black ground, the interior fitted with a lift-out compartmented tray containing ivory sewing implements, lower compartmented drawer, one compartment with hinged lid, (gilt wear, lacquer losses), ht. 5 3/4, wd. 12 3/4, dp. 9 1/4 in. The lacquer losses are primarily on the cover front and two front corners. also cracks to the lacquer around the rear sides of the cover, the gilt wear primarily across the the cover over the tops of the buildings, most of the figures still there, but some areas are worn there also.
