Mahogany Patent Alarm Timepiece or "Lighthouse" Clock by Simon Willard, Roxbury Massachusetts, c. 1830, the veneered case in three sections, the eight-sided base with applied gilded ormolu wreath and removable back door on two brass ball feet and a rear turned wooden foot, the carved and turned bezel with rope molding and acanthus leaves and the cylindrical waist supporting the eight-day weight powered timepiece movement with recoil escapement and object right side alarm mechanism with bell mounted above, 4 3/4 in. dia. painted iron unsigned dial with Roman numerals within a turned brass bezel, all enclosed under a glass dome, ht. 30 in. The dome is a replacement, the turned bezel at the top of the cylindrical waist section and supporting the movement is a replacement, the felt covering over the iron plate supporting the movement is a probable old replacement, minor in-painting on the dial and numerals relined, approximately 1 1/2 in. wide strip of veneer from top to bottom at the back of the cylindrical waist section is a replacement, some re-gluing in the base and base moldings due to weight fall, turned rear foot a proble replacement, iron alarm weight is not period, the time weight is a period tin-cased cylindrical weight filled with lead.
