Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) Lieven Willemsz. van Coppenol, Writing Master: the Larger Plate, 1658, an 18th century impression (Bartsch/Hollstein, 283 VI/VI; Hind, 300). Unsigned, duplicate stamp from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston on the mounting sheet. Etching on paper, plate size 5 3/4 x 5 1/4 in. (14.5 x 13.3 cm), unmatted, unframed. Condition: Margins approximately 1/8 inch, toning, affixed to a supporting sheet at the corners, losses to margins. The sheet is a laid paper, but is adhered at the corners and at the middle of each side to a supporting sheet, so no further information is available. this sheet has an MFA duplicate stamp as originally noted. The width of the plate is 5 1/4 inches. There is no lower plate mark, but the full sheet measures 6 1/8 x 5 5/8 inches. There are losses/tears at many of the glue spots. These no more than graze the ink.
