Retro 14kt Gold and Ruby Bow Brooch, Ernest Zimet, unsigned, wd. 2 1/2 in. N.B. Ernest Zimet was a custom jeweler in the 1930s to the 1950s. With studios in Manhattan and Miami Beach, he practiced his art at the peak of Hollywood glamour and Art Deco design. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1901, he was exposed early to the jewelry trade by his father, a watchmaker. Zimet began his career in New York, opening a thriving business on Fifth Avenue where he executed one-of-a-kind pieces, necklaces, brooches, earrings, bracelets, and rings, based on his designs, or as requested by his celebrity clientele. Called 'The Twentieth Century Cellini' by Edward G. Robinson, his clients included some of the most famous names in Hollywood and high society, including George Raft, Constance Bennett, Yehudi Menuhin, Gloria Vanderbilt, James Forrestal, and Senator Claude Pepper of Florida.
