Scandinavian Silver Peg Tankard, late 18th century, the lid mounted to center with a Danish 24 Skilling coin dated 1758, within acanthus repousse border, the acanthus flat leaf engraved ear handle topped by a volute thumbpiece, raised on three pomegranate-form feet, topped by repousse of tulips and leaves, engraved to front with palm sprays enclosing monograms, also monogrammed to base of handle and underside of body, interior with five pegs perpendicular to handle, ht. 6 1/2 in., approx. 25 troy oz. Provenance: The property of Samuel Codman. the coin the rampant lion holding an axed and topped by a crown verso, and entwined monogram recto. minor age wear, including some wear to surface decoration and engraving. Marked only with a small cross (part of larger rubbed mark, likely), and SO or QS roundel (twice) to underside.
