Two Leather Fire Helmets, probably Boston, Massachusetts, late 19th century, a four-seam helmet with leather hat front with cut-out leather lettering "ENGINE 1 BFD," supported by a molded sheet brass fireman front holder, and CAIRNS & BROTHER NEW YORK" maker's metal label; the other helmet with eight seams, leather hat front with painted lettering "ENGINE 3 B.F.D.," held with a cast brass eagle head, a partial paper label with "Bos" address under brim, both with embossed scrolling on the brim and wool liners, (one hat front loose), ht. 9 3/4, 6 1/2, lg. 14 1/2, 14 3/4 in. Minor areas of wear to leather.
