Alfred Seifert (Czechoslovakian, 1850-1901) Love Letters Signed "A. Seifert" l.r. Oil on panel, 19 3/4 x 13 1/2 in. (50.2 x 34.3 cm), framed. Condition: Supports to the reverse, retouch, varnish inconsistencies, losses, craquelure with flaking. N.B. Alfred Seifert was born in Horovic, Czechoslovakia, where he lived and painted for the majority of his career. Seifert is best known for his genre scenes and portraits of women and children. Retouch is many small areas throughout. Small scattered losses, including two u.c. (above the sitter''s left shoulder) and one in the area of the letter on the lap of the sitter. Craquelure with lifting and flaking mostly stable. The work might benefit from a gentle cleaning.
