Pair of Wedgwood Encaustic Decorated Black Basalt Vases and Covers, England, early 19th century, lebes gamikos shape with upturned loop handles and urn finial to flat cover, each iron red, white, and black decorated with depiction on one vase of Orestes between two Furies, the reverse with a trainer and two athletes with jumping-weights, the other with Nike with a draped and veiled woman with a spear (possibly Hera), the reverse with a naked youth sitting on a rock centering a woman on the left walking towards him, a woman on the right walking away but looking back, impressed marks, overall ht. 12 3/8 in.
