Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) The Death of the Virgin, 1639, probably an early 18th century impression (Bartsch/Hollstein, 99 III/III). Signed and dated in the plate. Etching on laid paper with watermark "CDG," image/sheet size 15 1/2 x 12 1/8 in. (39.3 x 30.6 cm), hinged to a supporting sheet, unframed. Condition: Trimmed to or just within the plate mark, repaired hole c.r. and repaired loss to corner l.r., subtle toning, annotations in pencil and ink on the reverse. The hole is about 1/4 in in diameter; the corner loss is about 1 inch tall and 1/2 inch wide. There are residual hinges to the reverse.
