American Silver Engraved Punch Bowl, marked BP and STERLING, with rolled rim, on low foot, engraved with rocaille C-scrolls, floral sprays, birds, and dolphins, engraved with crest and with monogram dated 1754 to underside, dia. 9 1/4 in., approx. 41 troy oz. Note: The silver content of this lot has been analyzed at both the Winterthur Museum Laboratory and the London Assayer's Office. These analyses can be supplied upon request. Good condition overall; minor age wear and a few age typical minor defects. Note: The test at the Winterthur Museum laboratory was made under the supposition that it is American in origin. Their findings concerning the silver content were consistent with documented American examples produced prior to 1850. The test at the Assayer's office in London was conducted under the supposition that it is Irish in origin. That testing of the silver content indicated the high probability that the bowl was manufactured between 1840 and 1900.
