Russian Silver Gilt and Porcelain Mounted Chalice, Moscow, 1844, makers' marks indistinct, assayer Andreiì Antonovich Kovalbskiì, bell shaped bowl with Cyrillic engraving at rim, applied with four enameled porcelain ovals depicting Christ on the cross and three saints, in faceted bead surround, with applied foliate and wheatsheaf ground, on baluster stem engraved with anthemion to base, on domed base embossed with lambrequins, scrolls and quatrefoils, ht. 11 3/8 in., approx. 21 troy oz. one of the embossed cartouches of the foot with breaks to metal at top edges. one porcelain roundel with hairlines to top. two with very small flakes to bottom edge (1/8"). minor tarnish and wear to goldwash (particularly to stem).
