Pair of George III Weighted Silver Candlesticks, London, 1774, John Carter II, maker, fluted sconce with Greek key girdle, on tapered reed column with four engaged rams head monopodia, on flaring square base with further ram's heads, husk swags, and paterae, ht. 11 5/8 in. marks good. minor surface wear. one sconce girdle with possible small, old spots of repair. nozzles correctly numbered with sticks (i.e. 3 and 4), and marked with maker''s mark. edges of footrims engraved with same numbers, and with possible scratch weights (one 14=0, the other 13=16). minor footrim dings. lacquered.
