Plains Beaded Buffalo Hide Possible Bag, c. mid-19th century, the ends and flap beaded with geometric designs in white-heart red, yellow, white, blue, and black pony beads, the front panel with striped pattern using white-heart red, medium blue, white, and black seed beads, remnant tin cone danglers down the sides, (bead loss), 21 1/2 x 14 1/2 in. Provenance: Mordecai Thomas Bartram (1843-1904), collected between 1871 and 1873, then descended within the family. Included is a copy of a letter relating to his obtaining two beaded bags.
