Rare Prairie/Plains Carved Elk Horn Hide Scraper, Omaha or Otoe, c. first half 19th century, decorated with incised tally marks, geometric devices, an abstracted human figure, the head with emanating lightning, and a row of military figures wearing early 19th century style uniforms, rich dark patina, lg. 15 3/4 in. Provenance: Mordecai Thomas Bartram (1843-1904), collected between 1871 and 1873, then descended within the family.
