Eli Terry, Jr. & Co. Mahogany Shelf Clock, Terrysville, Connecticut, circa 1839, with printed maker's label inside case stating "Brass Clocks Made and Sold at Terrysville, Conn. by Eli Terry Jr., & Co.," experimental modified brass movement of thirty-hour duration, wooden winding drums, lantern pinions and count-wheel strike all powered by two cast iron weights and regulated by a pendulum, (imperfections), ht. 22 3/4 in. This rare group of early brass manufactured clocks are discussed in Roberts and Taylor, Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock , pp. 329 and 331, fig. 190 and the NAWCC Bulletin, December 1965, pp. 26-29. Lower painted glass is repainted and probably was a looking glass, dial and label in undisturbed condition, original hands, weights and pendulum.
