Federal Mahogany Inlaid Commode Chest, attributed to Thomas Seymour, c. 1806-10, the demilune top with tiger maple-inlaid edge, on conforming case of three central cockbeaded and crossbanded drawers with flanking panels of bird's-eye maple and stringing, three hinged side drawers, and additional panels, on turned and reeded tapering legs joined by a tiger maple inlaid lower edge, replaced brasses, refinished, (restoration and imperfections), ht. 38 1/2, wd. 46 1/2, dp. 24 in. the top has several shrinkage cracks, supported on underside by horizontal pieces of wood; some drawers have been most likely reveneered, and the floral swag inlay is a later embellishment ; some cockbeading replaced; some of the banding on skirt is missing or replaced.
