Small Redware Jug, probably Maine, early 19th century, elongated oval form with strap handle applied to lip, greenish-brown glaze flowing to reddish-brown with green and brown speckles, (minor wear), ht. 7 1/2 in. Literature: Similarly glazed redware attributed to Maine is illustrated and discussed in Slipped and Glazed: Regional American Redware, exhibition catalog, May 12-Oct. 14, 1991, Heritage Plantation of Sandwich, Brian Cullity, curator, 1991, pp. 36-7. small glaze flake on lip and a 1 x 1/2 in. old shallow chipped area on handle edge.
