Crewelwork Panel, by Mary Balentine, western Massachusetts, 18th century, the panel with shaped hem probably a valance from a set of bed hangings, worked in polychrome wool yarns in a curvilinear floral and fruit design on a natural colored linen ground, accompanied by an old typed exhibition card reading "Sheffield 1733-1933/Loaned by Mary A. Durlack/Piece of valence embroidered by Mary Balentine who married General John Ashley," (toning, minor spots), 11 1/2 x 81 in. Provenance: Mary Durlack to her son Greg Marks.
